Bruichladdich Octomore 16.2 Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky 58.1% 700ml

Octomore 16.2 is a bold experiment in marrying intense Islay smoke with the richness of European wine casks. Distilled from Scottish barley peated to 101.4 PPM, it is aged in a combination of Oloroso sherry butts, Amarone barriques, and French oak casks. The result is a whisky that remains unmistakably Octomore but with a decadent twist of fruit and spice. Finished in Madeira and Moscate Casks.

The nose opens with dark berries, prunes, and cherries, wrapped in sweet woodsmoke. Notes of balsamic, espresso, and polished leather emerge as it sits in the glass. On the palate, the whisky is both powerful and indulgent, offering flavours of black forest gateau, roasted coffee beans, liquorice, and charred oak, all interwoven with red wine tannins and maritime peat.

The finish is long and layered, leaving impressions of smoked plums, spice dust, cocoa, and lingering oak warmth.

Octomore 16.2 proves that peat can be more than raw intensity. Here, it becomes the backbone for a richer, fruit driven whisky that rewards time and contemplation. A standout in the 16 series and a must for collectors who appreciate Octomore’s ongoing journey into the possibilities of smoke and cask.
