Small Island Enso Coal River Pinot Noir 2024

The Small Island Wines are making plenty of noise with only a small range.

Complex, rounded and very smooth, everything you could want from a Pinot Noir.

100% Coal River fruit
10% whole bunch
12 months on FF oak, 2nd year.

From one of Tasmania’s most exciting boutique producers, the 2024 Enzo Pinot Noir captures the elegance and depth of the Coal River Valley in a beautifully poised expression. Sourced exclusively from one of the best sites in the region, this wine balances purity with complexity.

A touch (10%) of whole bunch brings aromatic lift and structure, while 12 months in seasoned French oak rounds out the supple tannins and adds a gentle savoury thread. The result is a silky, seamless Pinot Noir showing ripe red cherry, forest floor, subtle spice and a long, refined finish. Complex, rounded, and incredibly smooth — this is everything you could want from top-tier Tasmanian Pinot.

Tasmanian-born James Broinowski completed his bachelor of viticulture and oenology at the University of Adelaide in ’13. He was faced with the same problem as many other graduates wanting to strike out on their own: cash.

While others in his predicament may have found the same solution, his was the first wine venture to successfully seek crowdfunding. The first year, he bought enough pinot noir from Glengarry in Tasmania’s north to make 2100 bottles of pinot noir (which won a gold medal at the Royal International Hobart Wine Show ’16) and 200 bottles of rosé.

The following year he was able to buy pinot from the highly rated Gala Estate on the East Coast, as well as a repeat order from Glengarry. In ’19, James added Saltwater River vineyard on the Tasmania Peninsula to his roster of premium single sites. The quality of the wines is seriously good, too.-JAMES HALLIDAY
