Pierre Moncuit Cuvee Nicole Vieille Vigne Les Chatillons Extra Brut Grand Cru 2008

‘Moncuit have long offered wines exemplifying the justly-celebrated virtues of Le Mesnil. Such complexity and class! …Extraordinary value.’

David Schildknecht, The Wine Advocate

Produced only in the very top vintages, the Cuvée Nicole is made from over 100 year old vines in Les Chetillons and features the best elements of the Moncuit style with an intensity and weight that sets it apart in the lineup. It is rich and deeply expressive with the inherent tension that we expect from this Mesnil-centric house.

2008 is a great and collectible vintage and this must be one of the last deluxe cuvées we’ll see from it. 2008 Nicole Moncuit Vieilles Vignes, 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay from 90-year-old vines, was aged in the winery’s cellars for 15 years and disgorged on 5th February this year. It is a relatively small production comprising only 1,649 cases. (By comparison, Pierre Peters typically make around 2,000 cases of Les Chétillons, whilst nearby Salon Le Mesnil’s production can top 10,000 cases.)

Cuvée Nicole Moncuit sings the incomparable Les Chétillons terroir. This great lieu-dit brings an extra dimension aligned to the uncanny minerality of its pure calcaire soil. It is a vintage Champagne to leave you purring. The old vine stock gives a profound, highly expressive vinous experience. Citrus fruits, hazel kernels, and dried orange peel combine with white fruit and detailed, nuanced mineral complexity.
