East Meets West in Oak and Intention
Released in 2022, the Takumi Edition represents a rare trans-Pacific collaboration between Kentucky Owl's master blender John Rhea and Nagahama Distillery's Yusuke Yahisa. ‘Takumi' means ‘master' in Japanese, and the name speaks to the union of American bourbon tradition with Japanese blending artistry. Four Kentucky bourbon lots aged between 4 and 13 years were selected and blended in Kentucky, guided by Yahisa's Japanese palate.

The nose is vivid and poised: cinnamon roll, red apple skin, toasted coconut and sandalwood, followed by hints of clove, peanut brittle and forest floor. The palate opens with a rich wave of vanilla fudge and baking spice, layered with toasted oak, orange oil, miso caramel and roasted nuts. Structure comes from firm tannins and balanced warmth, without overshadowing the whiskey's sweeter tones.

Final Thought
Takumi Edition offers something new without abandoning its Kentucky roots. It's a study in contrast and cohesion  -  a bourbon shaped by dual cultures, bringing global technique to an authentically American spirit. Complex, balanced and refreshingly original.
