Jean-Paul Brun Fleurie Beaujolais 2022
100% Gamay from 40-year-old vines planted in the beloved parcel of Grille Midi. The hand harvested grapes are fermented on the skins in concrete for almost a month, where it then ages for 8 months before bottling. Brun eschews wood here, preserving Fleurie's inherent delicacy and freshness. Unfined and unfiltered.
Quintessential Fleurie at it's most elegant. Cherry, black raspberry and rose mingle with accents of graphite and crushed rocks. More vibrant red fruit and violet notes drive the juicy and silky palate. Pliant tannins and a granitic mineral undercurrent lend the wine structure, lift and serious poise. A brilliant, world-class Fleurie.
Jean-Paul Brun, Beaujolais' native and star, has championed the traditional winemaking practices of the region while also supporting more modern, organic farming methods. He rejects the laboratory yeasts and chaptalizing techniques used by many producers in the region, crafting honest, terroir reflective wines.
Even with his intimate involvement in the wines, the breadth of his production and farming is shocking. Terres Dorées, Brun's domaine, spans more than 60 hectares of vines, producing a wine from almost every Cru. He is a true master of Beaujolais.
