Domaine AF Gros Vosne Romanee 'Aux Reas' 2023
The name Gros is one of the most famous in the Côte de Nuits, synonymous with great Vosne Romaneé. The original Gros domaine is now divided amongst four family members. Anne-Françoise, daughter of Jean Gros, married into another great Burgundy dynasty, the Parent family of Pommard. In 1998 François Parent and Anne Françoise combined their domaines to create a superb 10 hectare property comprising some of the finest terroirs in the Côte d’Or. Today their children Caroline and Mathias run the estate, with Mathias ever experimenting and pushing boundaries in both vineyard and cellar.
The plot in this excellent lieu-dit is located on the Nuits-Saint-Georges / Vosne-Romanée border and is flanked by the Premier Cru Clos des Réas to the north, as well as Les Jacquines and Au-dessus de la Rivière vineyards to the south.
Serious, brooding aromas of red and black cherry, raspberry, and tayberry with a delicate floral uplift. Soft, silky, and super pure on the mid-palate thanks to ripe, rounded tannins and svelte mouthfeel that builds into a crescendo of melange of red and black summer berries with added black pepper and clove spice. Finely tuned and focused… no wonder it’s always a firm favourite. Bravo, Mathias!
